Technical Visit
The technical visit will take place on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, between 14:00 and 18:00.
The visit to the Mohamed VI Museum of Water Civilization in Marrakech will be an immersion into the rich and fascinating history of water management in Morocco—a precious resource in a semi-arid country. Participants will discover the ingenious solutions developed by past civilizations to manage, capture, and conserve water, such as the khettaras, traditional underground canals that transport water from the mountains to arable lands.
The museum offers a series of interactive exhibits, models, and ancient artifacts, including hydraulic tools and maps showing the evolution of irrigation networks. Visitors will be immersed in an environment where traditional Moroccan architecture harmonizes with modern museography: beautifully decorated arches, colorful mosaics, and soft lighting create a calming and captivating atmosphere.
Guided by an expert, participants will gain insights into the challenges of sustainable water management today, while learning how ancient techniques still inspire modern solutions. They will also enjoy the lush inner gardens and fountains, symbols of the cultural importance of water in the region. This visit will provide a unique perspective on the interconnection between history, culture, and natural resource management in Morocco.
